A bypass valve diverts a portion of pump flow to a low-pressure outlet and can be used on diesel and electric units.For diesel engines,it is used to prevent bogging of the engine when using flows at  the low end of the pump's capabilty.Abypass valve is required on elecric units due to the non-adjustability of motor speed.
